Recently a researcher stopped by our booth at a conference to talk about Leaf Area Meters. He explained that for years he had tasked his graduate students with the job of measuring leaf area the old-fashioned way, on the grounds that labor was less expensive than buying instruments.

Fed up with the time-consuming task, his grad students decided to challenge his theory. "Turns out, I was wrong," he said. After calculating the cost of their labor, they showed that buying a Leaf Area Meter was actually less expensive and more efficient. So that's just what we're going to do!
